5 vor 12 ist Schaffners Reaktion auf diesen Zustand, eine Mahnung. Gehen wir um die Skulptur herum zeigt sie 5 nach 12 an. Später wurde sie von Wind und Wetter zerstört und mahnt uns mehr den je.

The Island of Mallorca has changed: urbanization, commercialization. The water resources are running short, the vegetation is getting sparce, the salinity of the groundwater is increasing.
“Five to Twelve” / ”5 to 12” is Schaffner’s reaction to this situation, the sculpture being a warning. As we go round it, the message reads “Five past Twelve”/ “5 past 12”. The sculpture was later destroyed by rain and storm, thus being even more of a warning.
